Namaste, My Readers.

Namaste, an everyday salutation for the population of Asia is the basis of greeting someone with respect, equality, and gratitude. Namaḥ means ‘bow’ and te means ‘to “you’; the literal definition of Namaste is “bowing to you”.  In Hinduism culture and for most yogis it also has an esoteric reflection. “I honor the place in you that is the same as me. I honor the place in you where the whole universe resides. I honor the place in you of love, of light, of peace and of truth. I honor the place in you that is the same in me. The divine light in me recognizes the divine light in you.”

This greeting is displayed by placing the hands in prayer formation in front of the heart center or the third eye chakra. This same posture has been found in many terracotta figures during excavations for Indus civilization; these clay figures of artistic and religious expression date back to 3000 BC – 2000 BC.

What would it be like to look into your own eyes with a mirror, place your hands together in front of your chest, bow your head, relax your eyes, and say Namaste out loud? Are you able to honor your divine being and respect yourself? Are you equal to your counterparts? If you can, start every day with this deep and powerful greeting, all you need is a mirror. Love, acceptance, light, peace, and truth begins with self, and radiates further than the people you pass a kind word or smile to throughout your day. Give yourself confidence, fill your heart with light, and lift others up in the process.

Benefits of Reiki

Improve and maintain health
We all have our own healing energy. We heal easier when our energy is high. But over time, we use up this energy. Reiki brings this healing energy back and supports the body’s natural ability to heal.
Studies have proven that reiki helps patients heal faster and with less pain. It allows a normal healthy flow of energy to resume and washes away any negativity lodged in the body; hence, allowing the body to heal.
A growing number of physicians are recognizing the benefits of Reiki. In fact, studies show that about 15% of hospitals and medical facilities across the country have been offering this healing practice to help ease pain and speed recovery.

Cultivate more positive emotions
Reiki provides great relief during emotional distress. This healing practice allows you to let go of negative emotions and replaces them with feelings of trust, care and love. It improves your capacity for empathy and enhances your capability to love. Because of this, it helps strengthen personal relationships and opens you up to the people around you.

Relieve stress
Stress reduction is one of the greatest benefits provided by reiki. The light touch of reiki provides a sense of calmness. It encourages you to let go of negative emotions, fear, anxiety and stress. 5 minutes of reiki a day can provide a calming, lasting benefit.

Crickets – Symbolizing Luck

The beautiful sounds of crickets chirping outside as I lay my head down to rest. This last week has been packed full of long days of work. It feels so nice to be horizontal and this lovely tune outside of my window inspires me to write. How fitting that the cricket symbolizes luck, good fortune, and everything one has been working toward and dreaming about are now possible.

Every step I take, now in the direction aligned with the end goal – save enough money to move out of the country for several years. There was lackadaisical planning since 2012 when my first escape was interrupted by the law. The plan bloomed the summer of last year. Now, with a year left until launch date, there is serious planning, arduous work, and of course honoring my wild side until we depart.

When I say we, I’m referring to my friend Margaret and me. Oddly enough I met her in the rehab I was sentenced to 2 years after my judicial debacle. I didn’t like her when I first met her; funny how some people grow on you over time – to a point where we are virtually inseparable. This lovely woman and I are currently planning an exciting expedition. Theoretically we would love to go to every country, although most nations aren’t very fond of Americans or felons for that matter.

I have always been an explorer. Traveling to 48 states and a several countries left me craving more, more than the drugs I use to lose myself in. I have been patiently (well let’s be real, I haven’t been patient) waiting to finish probation so I can leave the state freely without requiring permission. Probably a funny thought for most people, requesting to leave and having a solid approved reason to do so. Apparently “because I feel at home on the road ” wasn’t a sufficient answer. 😉

chakraThe day that I discovered the world had different chakra centers of energy vortexes, both hemispheres of my brain lit on fire. This was it. This would be the basis of a guide for the beginning of traveling. What started off as a singular adventure quadrupled to four companions. Over the course of a year, 2 dropped off the bandwagon, leaving just two of us to pioneer our own destinies of exploration.

Planning escalated when two friends informed me they were getting married in Costa Rica 3-4 months before we thought we were going to leave. The research beings. Where do you even start to plan a trip like this aside from overworking yourself to save the money … we decided visas and vaccinations, after we picked all the countries of course. Our list is currently nearing 80 different countries.

As this cricket slowly gets quieter I feel as it’s my cue to wrap this up for tonight …. it’s so hard to sleep when I get excited.

Why Yoga Nidra?

“Relaxation means to be blissfully happy, It has no end.”
-Swami Satyananda Saraswati

When you hear the word “Yoga” you often imagine a body contorting into different positions. While yoga is so much more than that. There are seven limbs of yoga that aren’t physical movement at all.

Yoga Nidra is a practice of healing on the physical, mental, and emotional levels without ‘physical’ movement. It is using this technique that teaches one to relax consciously. True relaxation is an experience you have never felt until you’ve tried Yoga Nidra. It opens deeper phases of your mind, unloading the subconscious and unconscious mind, the most powerful forces in the human being.

brain-waves-the-one_origHarvesting a witness awareness helps one become less reactive to situational experiences. This is practiced by the practitioner guiding you from alpha to beta to theta to delta brain waves. Delta is generally defined as the brain wave you experience while sleeping, however, with Yoga Nidra the delta waves are responding in a conscious sleep. Once you are consciously sleeping you can program your mind with a sankalpa or resolve. A sankalpa is a present tense affirmation or saying such as “I healthy and happy” or “I participate in activities that nourish my mind and strengthen my will”.  Yoga Nidra is a process to manifest your wants or needs into fruition at an exponential rate.

Solar Eclipse…Embrace A Little Lunacy

Advice from a Solar Eclipse:

Cast a long shadow.
Glow with Excitement.
Have a stellar attitude.
Be out of this world!

Wow. There are not words to describe the experience of the totality of the solar eclipse. When the moon comes in-between the Earth and the Sun. Planets start to pop out in the sky, birds become quiet, and the horizon mimics a sunset – 360°. I have to say it was the most epic natural experience I have ever encountered.
The amount of energy was wild, from the people watching it on the side of the highway with us, all the way to the cosmos. Personally, I felt refreshed, renewed, revitalized. I had a new sense of what direction I wanted to take my life and new goals emerged. What a wonderful time to ignite them with the power of this solar eclipse new moon!
I am finally going to take the steps to finish my Bachelors in Nutrition, plan a series of  yoga classes, and take the steps to saving and planning for a world excursion! Stay tuned to see how things pan out … ❤

Om Namah Shivaya

Maha Shivrati.
What a wonderful experience to take part in. In case you didn’t know, On this night, the northern hemisphere of the planet is positioned in such a way that there is a natural upsurge of energy in a human being. This is a day when nature is pushing one towards one’s spiritual peak. It is to make use of this, that in this tradition, we establish a certain festival which is night-long. One of the fundamentals of this night-long festival is to ensure that – to allow this natural upsurge of energies to find their way – you remain with your spine vertical – you stay awake.

Mahashivratri is very significant for people who are on the spiritual path. It is also very significant for people who are in family situations, and also for the ambitious in the world. People who live in family situations observe Mahashivratri as Shiva’s wedding anniversary. Those with worldly ambitions see that day as the day Shiva conquered all his enemies.

But, for the ascetics, it is the day he became one with Mount Kailash. He became like a mountain – absolutely still. In the yogic tradition, Shive is not worshipped as a God, but considered as the Adi Guru, the first Guru from whom the knowledge originated. After many millennia in meditation, one day he became absolutely still. That day is Mahashivratri. All movement in him stopped and he became utterly still, so ascetics see Mahashivratri as the night of stillness.

Legends apart, why this day and night are held in such importance in the yogic traditions is because of the possibilities it presents to a spiritual seeker. Modern science has gone through many phases and arrived at a point today where they are out to prove to you that everything that you know as life, everything that you know as matter and existence, everything that you know as the cosmos and galaxies, is just one energy which manifests itself in millions of ways.

This scientific fact is an experiential reality in every yogi. The word “yogi” means one who has realized the oneness of the Existence. When I say “yoga,” I am not referring to any one particular practice or system. All longing to know the unbounded, all longing to know the oneness in the Existence is yoga. The night of Mahashivratri offers a person an opportunity to experience this.

16998684-10102260760160605-2229019180723976731-nThe experience I had was so energizing! Chanting, singing, dancing … Everyone takes part in bathing the Shiv Ling in several items, yogurt, honey, water, etc. This is significant for washing away the sins. This is what Shiva wanted to be bathed in. The puja ceremony entails purification with holy water and chanting, along with some other things, however, I was unable to attend the entire event because of morning commitments.

I also received a rudraksha bead at the ceremony I attended. Talk about divine timing … A personal mantra and rudraksha bead tied in perfectly to my mala making two days later. What more could a girl ask for? Blessed. I am absolutely positively blessed. Every step on the right path, in the right direction.
